While camping at Jonathan Dickenson State Park my boys wanted to try frog legs. We were referred by the staff at the park. The service was top notch. Food excellent. We ate at 5 pm on Sunday. Had the gator appetizer. Then had the catfish and gator combo meals. I highly recommend.

First time for my family eating here. We have heard about it for a few years now and decided let's go. Oh My God! We all walked out of here too full. Hush Puppies, Catfish, Fried Oysters, Fried Shrimp, Conch Fritters, Gator Tail, and finally homemade Key Lime Pie. Deliciously fantastic.

We eat there and found it to be over rated and over priced, the hush puppies were cooked in oil that had been used to long they were dark and the shrimp wasn't cooked long enough, the catfish want to bad just ok . Was disappointed !! Dave & Tina

Out of this world shrimp and catfish. The breading is light and stays crisp. If you're under 50 years old you'll be the youngest person in the room. Average plate is about $19 so be prepared to spend about $50 for two people. Also be prepared to wait and to have to walk outside to use the restroom but it's all well worth it. Charming all around.

Rising quality again. Packed parking lot. Building not much to look at or interior décor just good food. Fresh catfish not Mississippi but good fresh finger cats. I preferred the fried bone in. Scallops very good. Chowder excellent. Local establishment that is not just living on its reputation. They earn it with each meal served. Sometimes wait staff has trouble keeping up with the crowds but worth the momentary wait. Small bar you can eat at with beer and wine. Lots of fresh seafood options.

I love catfish! Unfortunately, I didn't love this catfish--it was too muddy tasting. Yes, I know that's where they live, but good catfish doesn't taste like it's habitat. On the bright side, the cole slaw and hush puppies were excellent. But, the Catfish House doesn't need my love and devotion because, from the looks of the packed parking lot, they have lots of loyal patrons.

There are just those little, out-of-the-way places that transport you either to another time or location. Distinctly local, The Catfish House is one of those places. When I was there, the guests were mostly older, the bill was hand-written (they DO accept MasterCard and Visa though), and the bathrooms are outside and around the corner (think at a gas station, but much cleaner and cuter). But enough waxing poetic, on to the food. And oh the food. I'd rank the fried catfish (boneless for me) and shrimp combo platter as one of the top two fish dishes I've had in Southern Florida (the other being the fish & chips at the Old Key Lime House in West Palm). In my humble opinion, better than Leftovers or The Food Shack. I do not like catfish generally, but this was out of this world. Perfectly fried, not greasy, flaky and not overdone, and absolutely zero "fishy" taste. The shrimp, too, were phenomenal. This dish alone was worth the trek, but the fried green tomatoes and hushpuppies closed the deal. Go now. Seriously.

I have been coming to this very modest roadside restaurant for about 35 years now ever since my folks first moved to Hobe Sound. It is not much more than a shack but that's where you're likely to find some of the best seafood and it has consistently done just that for many many years. Unfortunately, it has gone a bit upscale for my taste and I'll tell ya why. For years it has had a truly incredible deal...all you can eat of the finest catfish I've ever found anywhere for about $10 bucks! Hobe Sound, being so darn close to Lake Okeechobee is where they get their catfish fresh and not the tasteless farmed variety. The taste is amazing either fillets or whole...expertly lightly breaded in corn meal and fried to perfection the meat is sweet, hot inside and crust just right. Hush puppies are TDF ( to die for ) and fries great. Unfortunately, they have done away with the all you can eat catfish, as well as raised the prices! Now you only get 4 fillets for $13.95 and that is a huge disappointment. You can add more at $2.50 a fillet and that is just crazy to go spend $20 bucks for a full catfish meal. Now they have grilled Mahi Mahi and the such which is fine but why go and fix something that ain't broke? The best fried catfish on the Treasure Coast...now too expensive to truly enjoy when I've know a great deal when I had it all those years.... My sister always gets the fried shrimp, which taste local from the Gulf and they too are perfectly breaded and cooked exactly right! I can't stand overcooked shrimp and they know how to do this so you wish you had another plate. Fantastic cole slaw, OK salads, good tartar sauce. They have gator, frog legs, chicken too but I always go for the seafood. Same hostess and bar tender been working there forever too...bar tender is a bit surly but the hostess is a doll. Guess everything is gotta change but $85 dollars for a meal for three without even cocktails is now outta my range.
